I have been shopping with Shein for the past 5 years, which means I have had a good amount of experience dealing with Shein to let you know the good and the bad before you shop with them if you have not done so before. I post a lot of fashion content on social media, so Shein is one of my go-to affordable places to shop. Their products have been a hit or miss for the past three years. 

But surprisingly, this year, there has been a drastic change. The quality of their clothes is amazing. Some are still a miss, but they are stepping up big time when it comes to what they are selling. And now, people compare their quality to that of Zara’s since you can get similar finds from both, but Zara is on the pricier side. 

Is Shein safe?

Most people that I have spoken with that have never shopped from Shein have this fear in mind. Is Shein good? Is Shein reliable? Shein has had a lot of backlashes. One of these backlashes, according to BBC News, is the issue of not showing diversity in the models they use. For reliability, they are legit. I have never had issues getting the items that I ordered. Sometimes, the items might not come as seen on the website. The color, the material, or even the size might be off, but my orders always showed up.

They operate their business in China, where materials are very cheap and they don’t have to pay much for labor. 

My best tip when ordering from Shein for the first time or the hundredth time is to always check the reviews of the products that you’re looking to get. For some items, the review will be off, but the majority of the time the reviews are right. Another place where I get detailed information about Shein outfits is on YouTube. I’ll type in the product name to see if someone on YouTube has reviewed the item. It’s like you’re getting a glimpse of what you’ll be receiving.

• Value for Money

The companies’ products are worth every penny! First, it offers customers a wide variety of the best fashion pieces. If you need to get the trendiest classic designs, Shein will give you just that at a very affordable price. In addition, Shein gives every customer a 30% discount on their first purchase, various coupon codes, and many offers. The firm also offers customers free shipping for every purchase valued at $30.

• High-Quality Products

The quality of Shein’s products is a hit-or-miss kind of situation. And even though the quality is impressive now, I always had my fears until I received my items. For example, its bridal dresses have some of the best designs and fabrics. The cuts and the colors of its products are also fantastic!

• Great customer service.

Thank God I have never had to deal with their customer service team, but I have a friend who had to and her experience was great. In her words, “Shein prides itself on providing customers with the best 24/7 customer support system.” There are people that have experienced terrible service from them, but from what I’ve seen, the good outweighs the bad.

• Shein’s Website Is User-Friendly.

Its website is highly reputable and user-friendly. The payment process is even more straightforward, particularly when using PayPal to make payments. As per many customers’ remarks, the main standout feature that makes the website user-friendly is the ease of navigation when searching for products. Last but not least, Shein’s user-friendly website is complemented by a great blog whose content is created by fashionistas and customers. This value adds helpful content and greatly appeals to its customers, who stay longer on the website and buy more. 

• “Good Return Policy“

Shein’s return policy is a fair one for its customers. You can return the product you have purchased within 45 days of delivery. Return shipping is also free unless you make multiple returns from one order on different dates, in which case you must pay for shipping. The product must not be damaged in any way or used. In addition, customers cannot return products such as swimwear, jewelry, tights, and lingerie. 

Cons

• You Need to Double-Check Size Requirements.

The Shein’s customers’ most frequent complaints are poor fit or size. The company usually uses “Asian style” measurements to create its products. The sizes also change depending on the outfit style. That’s why the review section should be your best friend on the Shein website.

• Their shipping times are not so good!

Their order processing times are considerably long, sometimes taking five to seven days! In addition, the extra processing time is not normally included in the overall shipping time. I have noticed that when I spend a certain amount of money, for example, my $300 order will come faster than a $100 order.

• Range of Products

Shein boasts a diversified range of products. Currently, women’s wear constitutes about 77% of its products, while kids’ wear comprises nearly 15% of its products. Currently, Shein also provides plus-size garments for women in the plus-size category. These products constitute nearly 19% of the brand’s assortment. 

On the other hand, menswear makes up about 8% of the brand’s products. Other than fashion pieces, Shein also offers homeware, pet wear, stationery, and beauty products. 

Shein is most popularly known for producing the best and most affordable womenswear, such as tights, gowns, swimwear, and lingerie. This is because women are its primary target audience. In fact, its womenswear makes up the lion’s share of all the brand’s offerings, despite it also branching out to produce home wear, cosmetic products, men’s products, pet care products, and more. Shein has kept true to itself by consistently coming up with better, newer, and more womenswear for its customers.
