The Essentials For A Two Children Diaper Bag

As a mom, we sometimes pack too many things “just in case we need them,” which can ultimately result in an over-filled bag that is so heavy and uncomfortable to carry that it can actually make the searching process a lot harder.

The essentials for a single diaper bag or for two children will vary depending on their age. Therefore, to help you out, here are some of the most important things to always carry with you.

diaper bag essentials

Diapers

I am starting with this because it is the most important thing in that bag, and when packing, know that it’s always good to pack extra. In general, consider packing four per child.

wipes

Fragrance-free, all-natural ingredients and great moisture will always be my first choice when it comes to newborn and baby wipes. Water Wipes are my favorites. A whole pack is always recommendable.

change of clothing

Clothing One full outfit change per child is the go-to norm, but feel free to add more pairs of socks or onesies if you feel it is necessary.

Nursing covers

For breastfeeding mamas, this comes in handy, especially when you’re in public. Newborns got to eat when they got to eat. If you have two newborns, pack more than one cover.

Changing mat

The good thing is that most diaper bags now come with it, so it’s something you do not have to worry about buying. If your diaper bag does not come with a changing mat, you can get it separately for a reasonable price.

Burp cloth

Burp cloths are essential for new babies. I called them protectors of moms’ or dads’ clothes. Two are great to have in your diaper bag.

Bib

One or two bibs per child is good.

Cream/oil

I love taking the travel size with me to help save space. It’s recommended to apply diaper cream at every diaper change to create a protective barrier that keeps moisture out. I have always use Aquaphor or the A+D diaper ointment for my children.

Toys

A go-to toy your child loves that doesn’t hurt them to have away. My children love to color, so I always pack that with me, and life has been easier going out with two toddlers.

Pacifiers

They help calm babies, especially in a new environment.

Hand sanitizer

I always keep mine in the side pocket of my diaper bag. It comes in handy when there is no water to wash your hands. As a substitute, you can use baby-safe disinfectant wipes.

Band-aids

You never know when your little one will fall. Thank God, I have never had to use it. I always have it with me because when I had my second baby, band-aids were included in the doctor’s diaper bag list.

How To Pack A Diaper Bag For Two Children

The best way to pack a diaper bag for two children is to consider your and your child’s needs as well as how often you use a diaper bag. That is, if you carry it every day, you’ll want to keep it as lightweight as possible but effective, so you never know when the items mentioned above will come in handy.

Further, you should think of your two-child diaper bag as a lifesaving bag you can count on if any complication happens, such as your car breaking down, a sudden trip to a small town, or a long day with your kids outside your home. What’s more, you must invest in a high-quality bag to help you with the process, and that allows you to save your stuff as well.

Trust me, a poorly-made bag will only complicate things for you and make the item search extremely difficult. Check out my Amazon storefront for my go-to favorite diaper bag for two children.

The Target story: Here is the opportunity to learn from my mistake.

As a mom who has had her baby throw up and mess up his entire outfit in public, the day I actually packed the wrong things in the baby diaper bag, Learn from my mistakes, so don’t find yourself buying things you had not planned for and having strangers staring at you to get your life together.

Jelan was 14 months old and Jayson was a month old. My husband and I took the kids to their wellness doctor’s appointment, and I decided to do a Target run with Jelan, my 14-month old at the time, while my husband went to the AT & T store with Jayson. Now, listen, the diaper bag was packed. Well, so I thought (hahahahahahahahaha).

Jelan started crying, so I checked my diaper bag. Sheesh! I forgot to pack snacks. I bought him a pouch of baby food. He ate it and started vomiting five minutes afterward. I had my diaper bag, so I ran with him to the restroom and guess what? I have five size one diapers and one and six-month-old outfits. You get the gist. It’s a whole mess.
