Easy tips when Matching Outfits for family in 2022

matching outfits for family

So I start a thing.......

Matching outfits for family was my mom’s thing, she always had us wearing coordinating outfits for special occasions. I used to dread it because having nine to ten people all wearing the same outfits can be a lot of work. I used to think as a kid that I will not put my family through this, But why are we here today? Hahahahaha………..

Listen, it wasn’t until I was an adult and began looking back at these memories that I realized how much I appreciated my mother for her perseverance. Matching outfits do not have to be a family tradition for everyone because there are other ways to make memories with your family. For me, it’s fun, and seeing how my kids looked when they were younger in a particular outfit brightens my day.

I began coordinating outfits with my children in January of this year, and it has been an adventure, but I have learned so much and it is becoming easier the more I coordinate  our clothes. When buying similar clothes for my toddlers, I have choices, but if I want to match clothes for myself, my 11-year-old, and the toddlers, I have to plan ahead.

Tips for matching outfits for the family

Before buying the outfits:

  1. Think about the color scheme and ask yourself, “Will everyone be wearing the same colors, or will you have to mix and match different colors?”
  2. Look for ideas on Pinterest. Make a board because it helps with planning. Pinterest is a great place to find color palettes.
  3. Look through your closet to see what you can wear, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money buying new clothes for everyone.
  4. Make sure you plan ahead of time, especially if you are purchasing items online. You want to make certain that you receive the right clothing, color, or size.

LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE before matching outfit for family

I had planned a photo shoot for my kids and myself, and we had almost everything ready except for my older son, Joseph Jr.’s, sneakers, so we could all match. The shoes arrived the night before the shoot, and they were too small for him. We’ve already planned around my husband’s schedule, checked the weather forecast, and don’t want to reschedule. He wore another sneaker, but we did not get the image I wanted. That was a lesson learned, so going forward I knew to have everything set a few days early

My go-to places for matching outfits for family

I have found the best matching outfits for kids at Old Navy and The Children’s Place. If you order online, The Children’s Place will notify you if adult sizes are available. After I get the kids’ clothes, I usually rely on Target and Shein for my outfit. I’ve only had issues with getting the matching colors when ordering online. Shein has also began selling kids’s clothes and they are great quality.

I’ve heard a lot about PatPat, but I haven’t purchased anything from them yet. From their website, it looks like they have beautiful clothes. We have Converse and Vans for footwear, they are appropriate for most of our outfits that I have put together. To make it easier, get footwear in blacks, whites or browns, as these can match with almost any outfits you put together for your family.

Enjoy putting together your family’s outfits using the tips I’ve provided. If you have a favorite place to shop for your family that I haven’t mentioned above, please leave a comment about it so I can check it out and it can help others as well.

Have fun coordinating your family’s outfits.
