I went skiing for the first time, and it was one of the most magical experiences. My ski trip was just to check something new off my bucket list, but this adventure has become dear and near to my heart. The entire planning process for this trip took three weeks, which was spontaneous and beautiful but not advisable because it can come with a lot of pressure.
Whether you’ve been on a ski trip before or are planning your first trip, in this blog, you’ll get a comprehensive guide, from booking flights, itineraries, and the costs of our trip to the best affordable ski activities.
Going on a Ski Trip
Plane Tickets to Aspen, Co
The first step is to take care of all things traveling. I flew from Dallas, TX, to Denver, CO, then drove three hours from Denver to Aspen, Colorado. My friend and I went, and she was in charge of getting our plane tickets. When she shared our routes with me, it made no sense, because why can’t we just go directly to Aspen? If we had flown from Dallas, TX, to Aspen, CO, we would have paid three times what we paid to go to Denver.
Check your location to see the route that works best for you. Going to Denver and driving to Aspen Co. was a great option for us, and the drive was not bad.
Cost Per Person: $225
Ski Trip Essentials
Everyone’s snow trip packing essentials will be different based on the activities that they have planned. An overview of our ski trip itinerary is to go to a hot spring, a luxury dinner, and maybe a club, go skiing, lift, and ride a snowmobile. Here are some of our ski essentials:
You need a ski suit if you’re planning to be around an area where there is a lot of snow. —a good waterproof ski suit that will keep you warm. Amazon has a lot of options, and this brand is my favorite.

Snowmass Village Lodging
Snowmass Village has beautiful places to lodge, but because of the amenities in this area, it is, of course, expensive, with a range of $780 and above per night. We decided to lodge in Glenwood Springs for a more affordable price. Glenwood Springs has great amenities like a hot spring, a gondola, five restaurants, and more. It’s also a thirty-minute drive to Snowmass Village.
Cost Per Person: $145
Transportation in Snowmass
One of the things I did while planning this trip was follow people who had gone on the ski trip to learn from their experiences and mistakes. The most reliable transportation when vacationing in Colorado is renting a car. I see videos where a group got stranded because Uber drivers couldn’t get to the area they were in.
Also, when it comes to renting a car, read car rental reviews before signing an agreement with the rental car company. We made that mistake, and our car rental company, Routes, was a bad experience, first leaving us in the cold for almost two hours when we arrived in Denver, CO, and making us miss our flight back to Dallas, TX.
Cost Per Person: $104 for two days
What to do in Aspen, CO?
Aspen Snowmass is one of the most popular ski resorts in Colorado. There are so many activities for kids, beginners, and pros. They have four villages, which are:
- Aspen Mountain: Gondola and Skiing
- Snowmass Village: Gondola and Skiing
- Buttermilk: Lift and Skiing
- Aspen Highlands: Lift and Skiing
We went to Buttermilk, skied for a little bit, and rode the lift. I didn’t enjoy skiing because I was on the floor every two minutes, but it was a nice experience. The lift was everything—exciting, scary, and beautiful.
Fifteen minutes outside of Buttermilk Village is a snowmobiling place called TLazy 7 Ranch. We spent two hours here riding the snowmobile at the beautiful Maroon Bell Park. It was also a magical experience. We were in a group of ten snowmobiles, and we stopped every thirty minutes for some fun activities, restroom breaks, and hot cocoa time.
Cost Per Person (Ski, Lift & Snowmobile): $335
My friend and I rode one mobile, which made the price favorable. The cost of one person per snowmobile is $275.
Best Food in Aspen, CO
Of course, you know I won’t forget to tell you where to get good food in Aspen, CO.
- Kedai Pho & Japanese Cuisine in Glenwood Springs was our favorite. We went there twice. Yeah, their food is that good.
- Steak House No. 316
- Cliffhouse, Aspen CO
- Masala & Curry, Glenwood Springs
Cost Per Person: $190
Our trip to Aspen Snowmass was a great experience and will probably become an annual trip. I also just saw that Aspen offers a wide range of activities throughout the year. You can go sightseeing during the summer. I prefer going in the winter, and this trip was one for the books. Vlogs of this Aspen trip are on my YouTube channel, so check them out. If you have ever been on a ski trip to Colorado, what were your favorite activities, and if you’re planning on going, what are you looking forward to?
